Dave Portnoy Criticizes Steve Kerr Over DNC Appearance

One more time, the Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy is targeting his scathing attack at Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr. This time, however, it concerns his partaking in the Democratic National Convention (DNC).

On Monday, Kerr was announced to be one of the speakers at DNC; this did not go down well with Portnoy who has been a critic of the coach. As an unwavering Boston sports fan, Portnoy and Kerr have been contentious with each other especially after the Summer Olympics when Coach Kerr gave limited playing time to Jayson Tatum who plays for Boston Celtics.

Portnoy became even madder when he saw Kerr’s name on the list of speakers at DNC. “He finds time to do this but can’t find minutes for Tatum? Nice priorities, loser,” Portnoy wrote on x before it was formerly known as Twitter.

The four-day DNC is being held at Chicago’s United Center where Kerr won four NBA Championships during his playing days.

Steve Kerr Basketball Legacy

Kerr has extensive involvement in American basketball setup. He was Gold winning Team USA assistant coach in Tokyo Olympics and his team finished fourth in 2023 FIBA World Cup featuring top NBA talents like Tyrese Haliburton, Anthony Edwards and Brandon Ingram.

The summer Olympics slated for Paris 2024 is anticipated to parade some of the most star studded roster ever seen in Team USA history including LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant among others. During training camp visits from Democratic nominee Kamala Harris were made by former President Barack Obama.

Harris, whose roots are deeply entrenched in Bay Area is an avid Warriors’ fan while there have been similar sentiments expressed by Kerr towards her. “It’s a very interesting time for our country, for sure,” said Kerr back in July.

“President Biden’s endorsement and Vice President Harris bringing her energy to the campaign is a big deal. She represents the Bay Area and has always supported us, so I want to give that energy back”. Despite a strong start by the American team at the world cup with a 101-84 victory over Serbia in their first group stage game, there was an outcry when Tatum did not play for even a minute.

The next day, Portnoy stayed on his criticism; posting “I still think [Tatum] should punch Steve Kerr in the face and fly home”. This latest attack on Kerr by Portnoy underscores ongoing tension between the outspoken sports media personality and the accomplished coach.
